Dimensional-Reality MUSINGS
PREFACE:
Donald Hoffman (a cognitive scientist) said, “Whatever REALITY is, you don’t see it...” Hoffman recognized that the dimension in which we live in is limited. Our eyes see a 2D representation before us (Length & Width) and our brains translate the 3rd dimension (Depth). Thus, we experience and perceive SPACE as a tangible 3D existence. However, Einstein’s Theory of Relativity proposed that SPACE and TIME were not independent but instead were interwoven into a singular space-time fabric.
In a famous letter to a bereaved family friend, Einstein wrote: “For those of us who believe in physics, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion."
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Hermann Minkowski (a mathematician and professor), described SPACE and TIME as a 4-Dimensional space-time continuum, now known as "Minkowski spacetime.” Given this, TIME serves as a 4th dimension along with the 3 spacial dimensions we are familiar with (length, width, height). The illusion is that TIME (at least in our dimension) proceeds linear- we cannot fast forward or rewind and relive the moments. We, as physical beings, do not have the ability to access any point (beginning, middle, or end) on the timeline. We move through our Reality 1 plank forward at a time.
INTROSPECTION:
Is the dimension we live in the Ultimate Reality? What if we could at least understand what it would be like to exist beyond the boundaries of our limited dimension?
WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE REALITY?
Sri Ramana Maharshi (an Indian sage regarded as an Avatar by his devotees) opined the following in his book, Be as You Are: “What is the standard of reality?” His self-reflective response: “That alone is real which exists by itself, which reveals itself by itself and which is eternal and unchanging.”
Using Maharshi’s definition of Reality as a premise, let us run with that for a moment and process the transient human life through Maharshi’s Reality TEST:
1.Does it exist by itself?
Speaking of the body (brain)- Hardly, without air we cannot survive past 3 minutes. Without water we cannot survive beyond 3 days. The conclusion: Our physical existence falls short of the standard of reality. The Mind and Soul possibility, if it can exist independently of the body and authenticated, would only check this box if it were NOT created by the Divine Creator and that is doubtful.
2. Does it reveal itself by itself?
One can argue that man can express his consciousness (verbally, written, or in various artforms) and need not any assistance. The conclusion: Maybe we can check this box, but let’s continue…
3.Is it eternal and unchanging?
Regarding the Physical Body, the conclusion: A slam dunk, NO. A physical body does NOT survive this life, and our youth is dismissed as quickly as the morning dew. Again, the Mind and Soul possibility, (if it can exist independently of the body), would check this box- but it has yet to be verified and it is extremely doubtful (to me) that it is eternal without Divine Consent.
Given the above, I propose the following:
1.THE HUMAN DIMENSION:
In our 4-Dimensional space-time continuum- Man (of all that he is comprised of) does not satisfy the standard of reality. I am not saying this temporary life is NOT real or an illusion, but it certainly does not pass the ULTIMATE Reality test.
2.THE GOD DIMENSION:
The only ULTIMATE Reality appears to be the Most High Himself. Let us attempt to perceive beyond the limited boundaries of our current existence and use our limited creativity to picture the dimension in which He exists in. I have always believed that God, (Jehovah), was all-loving, all-knowing, and all-powerful. If this is true (which I whole-heartedly believe it is), then The God Dimension would be a dimension wherein He can operate from a different SET OF RULES, not bound moral codes, nor by the physics of our dimension (the same gravity, the same speed of light, or the same cause & effect).
As the Grand Creator and Designer, He would exist in a realm of absolute awareness, where the concept of impossibility does NOT exist. In this dimension He can create new realities, and set totally different parameters on physics, where every conceivable world-possibility can occur from a myriad of different starting points. In The God Dimension He would have access to a limitless library of every possible beginning & can determine any possible pathway to its ultimate end. The full spectrum of possibilities are laid out before His eyes, where He can exercise expansive control and explore a vast array of Alternate Realities, if He so chooses.
HYPOTHESIS:
Perhaps this world and this life is not the Grand Creators only project? Perhaps that would explain the injustices of this finite life where a soul is mercilessly cut short, never having a chance to express its worthiness? Perhaps that would explain what Bible critics described in the Old Testament as the Wrath of God. Perhaps if we are given a myriad of alternative lives with endless moral possibilities- ONLY THEN, can we be fairly judged as souls? I do not know, but I speculate (with my extremely limited creativity) that The CREATOR of Creativity itself must have a grand design, a merciful, loving, and logical reason for us to undergo this temporary residence on earth. Perhaps, it will all be revealed to us...I hope so.
P.S. Granted, there are a lot of unanswered questions and experiences that seem to transcend the Human Dimension (Near Death Experiences, Dream-Visitations from a Deceased Loved One, Angel Interventions, Miracles that defy natural laws, Answered Prayers, supposed Past Life Memories, etc..)- all these subjective phenomena remain a mystery to science, yet add enchantment to our complex universe.
