A SAFE PLACE
PREFACE:
Dictionary.com defines a Safe Place as follows: “A place that provides a physically and emotionally safe environment for a person or group of people, especially a place where people can freely express themselves without fear of prejudice, negative judgment, etc.”
DISCUSSION:
The following descriptions come to mind:
-A soft place where you can fall on.
-A compassionate shoulder you can lean on.
-A Shelter from the Storm.
-A Protected Area
-A lighthouse untouched by the crashing waves of the sea.
-A Haven, a Hideaway, a Sanctuary, a Refuge.
-A Protective Bubble that insulates you from the world.
-A memory you can go to in your mind when there’s torment in your heart.
ANALYSIS:
It is that non-judgmental space where you can address your issues, freely weep, bemoan, and tend to your wounds. It is therapeutic- because that’s where HEALING takes place.
How do you know when you’ve reached that Safe Place? When your completely vulnerable and YOU FEEL undeniably SAFE...
When you start peeling away the layers of this onion, you learn that it is not a PLACE at all! Indeed, it’s that SPECIAL PERSON that makes you feel safe! The RECOVERY takes place when a mere mortal displays angelic qualities offering COMFORT and REASSURANCE. When just Being There for you (their PRESENCE alone) is all that matters…And that presence- makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE.
P.S.
A few extraordinary people (who sprouted wings for me), come to mind: My beautiful Wife, standing next to me while we were waiting for my Father to pass, (rubbing my back) or squeezing my hand, as tears kept streaming relentlessly down my cheeks while walking in a Texas mall 2 weeks later. Or my late Father turning on Start Trek attempting to quell the ravages of self-condemnation after 18 failed job-interview attempts (yeah, I was counting). Oh, my…
B.P.S.
Pic background explained: An article by Chris Thomas of Knoxville News Sentinel captured it perfectly; “Emotions were high for No. 3 seed Tennessee basketball following its 76-68 upset loss to No. 11 Michigan in the second round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament. UT freshman Kennedy Chandler began SOBBING in the Handshake Line before embracing Wolverines coach Juwan Howard (the opposing coach!) and crying into his arms.”
….THAT- single solitary moment (now frozen in time), was the REAL game. Truly, it embodied the BEST of humanity. Witnessed and Identified-With, first hand ….from the Lookout Post.
